FILMORE, Ind. – A 20-year-old is dead after a crash early Sunday morning in Putnam County involving an off-road vehicle.
Indiana Conservation officers were called to the scene of the crash around 2:20 a.m. near Heritage Lake and found Hayden Salapek, 20, or Warren, Pennsylvania, unresponsive in the roadway after being ejected from the driver’s seat.
Salapek was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers say the 27-year-old passenger, of Fillmore, was transported to the hospital after complaining of back pain. He was believed to be wearing a safety harness at the time of the crash.
Both victims were reportedly not wearing helmets.
Officers are still investigating and said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
An autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
