“The Interview” may not go on, after all.
Sony Pictures will allow cinemas to not show “The Interview,” which was scheduled to release on Dec. 25, The Associated Press reports.
Sony was targeted by hackers because the Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy is about assassinating North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The hackers, believed to be from North Korea, leaked sensitive data from Sony and threatened movie theaters that would show the movie.
Rogen and Franco have canceled all media appearancesdue to the threats. Some Sony employeessued the companyfor not protecting their personal data.
Carmike Cinemas, which owns 278 theaters nationally, has already canceled screenings of the movie, according to Hollywood Reporter.
