The 'One Ring' phone scam you should know about

FCC issues warning about charges
Posted

INDIANAPOLIS — If you get a phone call from a “222” country code, do not call the number back.

The Federal Communications Commission issued an alert Friday about a wave of “One Ring” scam robocalls.

In the scam, a consumer will receive a phone call, but the caller hangs up after a ring or two.

They may call repeatedly, hoping the consumer will call back, often resulting in per minute toll charges similar to a 900 number, according to the FCC.

The scammers are often using the “222” country code from the West African nation of Mauritania.

Do not call the number back, says the FCC.
