GoPro, the company that makes those small cameras you see adorning the heads of skiers and BASE jumpers, has announced a new line of devices that will likely be included in many wish lists this holiday season.
The company’s new HERO4 line, available in two editions, will offer high-end video capabilities including 4K and 1080p recording, as well as a touch screen. Meanwhile, a new cheaper model GoPro will also go on sale in time for the holidays.
The GoPro HERO has been labeled “the perfect entry-level GoPro” in a release from the manufacturer. Like the company’s other offerings, the camera will be cased in a waterproof cover and will capture high-definition video. The new camera will sell for $129, approximately $270 less than the most affordable HERO4 model.
The HERO4 Black, which is capable of shooting 4K video, will sell for $499, while the 1080p-capable HERO4 Silver will go for $399, according to GoPro.
The wallet-friendly GoPro HERO’s unveiling comes after the release of several similar, competing cameras with lower prices in recent years. Sony’s POV Action Cam sells for between $199 and $399, according to its website. The compact Polaroid Cube retails for under $100 online.
Details of HTC’s upcoming RECamera have been scant but images of the mountable camera were leaked online last week.
