Parents upset over Colorado school cafeteria noise rules

Parents in Aspen are upset after elementary school administrators put strict limits on noise in the cafeteria.

Students at Aspen Elementary School have been told that loud talking and noises are prohibited and administrators will blow whistles if students violate the rules.

According to the Aspen Times, some parents say their children are uncomfortable and even frightened by the rules. Parents say the rules are not clear and violations are frequent.

Principal Doreen Goldyn says parents' claims that their children are being forced to be silent during lunch hours are misguided. She says she and the assistant principal are simply trying to foster an environment that promotes good behavior.

The school has sent a newsletter to parents informing them of the new rules.
