MARION COUNTY, Ind. -- AAs Hoosiers prepare to head to the polls for the May primary the race for the District 29 Senate Seat is drawing a lot of attention.
Republican Incumbent Mike Delph, a member of the Senate since 2005, is facing a challenge in this year's primary from small business owner Corrie Meyer.
Delph has the history but does Meyer have the vision to persuade voters that change is needed?
Voters in District 29, which includes Carmel and parts of Boone and Marion County, say they're looking at the big picture this year and their focus is on making life better for Hoosiers with things like education, jobs and road improvements.
Toni McEwan, a small business owner, says she welcomes the economic growth she's seen in the region but she's worried about the traffic congestion that comes with it.
"In terms of traffic and infrastructure continued investment as the sprawl continues, whether its Amazon or other companies come downtown or into Northwest Carmel, a continued recognition and investment ensuring enough space on I-65 that 465 doesn't become a 1 and half hour commute from the east side to the west side," said McEwan.
She says she wants to hear more about mass transit systems that would combat these issues and connect Hamilton and Marion counties.
Bobbie Jo Brown on the other hand, believes that access to jobs is the main ingredient to a community's success and she's listening to the candidates' positions on those and on their education agenda very carefully in the days ahead of the primaries.
"My brother is a very, very, very good special needs teacher and education is my heart," said Brown. "I feel if you don't know---you can't go. Education is in my heart and is a platform of moving communities forward."
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat JD Ford in November's election.
