GREENFIELD — At least one person died Friday morning in a crash on I-70 in Hancock County.

The victim was identified as Mr. Jamesly Pierrelis, 35, of Avon, Indiana. His family has been notified.

The crash, which occurred around 5 a.m., happened under State Road 9 on I-70.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, the crash involved a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2020 International semi tractor pulling a box-style trailer.

The Camaro was driven by Mr. Daniel Tauber, 58, of Spiceland, who was uninjured.

The tractor-trailer was driven by a male from Indiana who was pronounced dead on the scene. The tractor is a “day-cab” style with no sleeping compartment, according to the sheriff's office.

The Camaro and tractor-trailer were both traveling west bound on I-70, approaching State Road 9 when they made contact.

Preliminary investigation found both vehicles lost control upon contact, which caused the tractor to strick the State Road 9 overpass and a temporary concrete barrier.

Tauber provided a chemical test at the scene and was released. No drugs are alcohol are suspected to have played a role, according to police.

A large amount of diesel fuel was released from the tanks of the tractor and caused long delays on I-70 westbound through the morning hours.

The structural integrity of the overpass was examined and found to be ok.
