INDIANAPOLIS — Law enforcement agencies in Indiana are preparing after a report indicated there may be protests at state capitols this weekend and leading up to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration next week, according to the FBI Indianapolis Field Office.

"There has not been any specific and substantiated threat to the Indiana state capitol or other government buildings in the state," Chris Bavender, public affairs specialist for the FBI, said in a press release. "Through a collaborative effort of federal, state, and local public safety agencies, the FBI and our partner agencies will continually monitor for potential security concerns and provide timely notification should this change."

FBI agents in Indianapolis are monitoring for potential security concerns with the Indiana State Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement officers are focused on those who threaten the safety of citizens with violence and damaging property, Bavender said.

"Criminal activity, the destruction of property, and the intentional incitement of violence to prevent others from peacefully expressing their First Amendment rights will not be tolerated," Bavender said.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious and or suspected criminal activity by calling the FBI Indianapolis Field Office at 317-595-4000, 1-800-CALL-FBI, or online.

In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
