INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police investigated a woman's death early Friday on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 9900 block of East 38th Street, near Mitthoeffer Road for an unresponsive person around 1:40 a.m.
Medics pronounced the person dead at the scene, according to IMPD.
Police are conducting a death investigation, and the Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of the person's death.
The woman was later identified as Shanel Smith, 50.
