BOONE COUNTY — A man was killed Thursday after a fire and two explosions at a home in rural Boone County.

According to a report from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, a good Samaritan reported the fire in the 3300 block of S 700 W around 7:12 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies said as firefighters were trying to put out the fire, two explosions took place. The explosions were caused by two oxygen tanks in the house. Multiple other oxygen tanks were located in the house and removed before the fire reached them.

During a search of the house, firefighters found the owner of the house dead in a bathroom area, deputies said. The victim has been identified as Bobby Shelton, 71. Shelton was the only occupant in the house at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
