INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police shot and killed a man Friday night who investigators said pointed a gun at officers.

Police confirmed that officers were called to an apartment complex, located in the 3800 block of Red Mill Place, near East 38th Street and North Franklin Road, just after 6:30 p.m.

Investigators said reports indicated that a man at the complex, identified as Monolito Ford, may have been suicidal, and he fired at least one shot into the air in the complex before officers arrived.

Police said as three officers moved into the complex, Ford walked toward them with a gun. They said Ford ignored commands to drop the weapon and he pointed it at the officers, prompting them to shoot.

Medics transported Ford to Eskenazi Hospital where he later died. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Police said Ford's gun was recovered at the scene.

At least three officers had body-worn cameras that were on at the time of the shooting, IMPD said.

The IMPD Critical Incident Response Team and the Marion County Prosecutor's Office both responded to the scene. IMPD Internal Affairs is also conducting an administrative investigation.

IMPD said the officers who fired their guns have been placed on administrative leave. The officers have not been identified.

An investigation into the shooting continues and anyone with information and video should contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
