INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead after a wrong-way head-on crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.
The crash was reported around 1 a.m. on I-70 eastbound near Harding Street.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers, who were first to arrive on the scene, found two vehicles, a semi-tractor trailer off the road and a passenger car with heavy damage, both on fire, Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said in a press release.
The driver of the car died on the scene, Perrine said. Their identity has not been released. The driver of the semi-truck wasn't injured.
Investigators believe the driver of the car was driving the wrong way and struck the semi-truck head-on, Perrine said. The semi-truck went off the road, rolled over, and caught on fire.
The crash remains under investigation.
