Semi driver struck, killed on I-465 on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — A person died after being struck by a driver on I-465 Monday morning.

The crash occurred just after 5 a.m. on Monday morning on the city's northeast side.

According to Indiana State Police, the driver of a passenger car struck the person on the interstate.

The person was standing on the interstate after a tire detached from their semi.

The driver of the car that struck the semi driver hit the wheel of the semi that had become detached. When they struck the wheel, it became lodged under their car. The driver then, unable to slow in time struck the driver.

The crash closed the ramp from I-465 westbound to Allisonville Road and caused overall delays in the area.

The driver of the car that hit the semi driver suffered minor injuries.
