Police: Woman found dead in Anderson street, investigation underway

ANDERSON — An investigation into a woman's death is underway after she was found dead with injuries in a street early Thursday morning, according to police.

Anderson Police Department officers were called around 2 a.m. to the 2200 block of West 16th Street, on the city's west side, after Benita Mitchell, 52, was found in the street.

Officers believe a vehicle may have been involved in her death based on evidence at the scene, APD Maj. Joel Sandefur said in a press release.
