INDIANAPOLIS — A semi fire closed I-465 southbound at exit 37 to I-69 for multiple hours on Monday.

The interstate shut down just before 1 p.m. as crews worked to contain a fire that spread rapidly on a semi.

According to Indianapolis Fire Department, the fire was brought under control in 25 minutes. IFD HazMat contained the 75 gallon diesel spill in 30 minutes.

Workers told IFD they felt "lucky to be alive" after escaping the burning truck. The workers said a tire blew, forcing them into the jersey barriers on either side of the southbound lanes. They escaped through the passenger doors.
