MONTICELLO — A Twin Lakes High School student and her mother, an Indiana State Police trooper, are dead after a house fire early Thursday morning in Monticello, according to Indiana State Police.
Twin Lakes School Corporation identified the deceased as Mya Thompson, an 11th grader, and her mother Trooper Stephanie Thompson, who was also a Twin Lakes volleyball coach, according to a Facebook post late Thursday from Twin Lakes School Corporation.
ISP announced on Friday that the White County Coroner positively identified the two.

Mya and Stephanie Thompson were also the daughter and wife Judge Jason Thompson of White County Circuit Court, according to ISP.

"The Indiana State Police family, especially those who knew and worked with Stephanie, grieves today with the Thompson family and the entire Monticello community. Please be respectful of the family’s privacy during this time of unimaginable grief"Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said in a statement.
Firefighters responded to the fully engulfed house fire around 2 a.m. in the 3200 block of North Lakeshore Drive, ISP Sgt. Jeremy Piers said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Indiana State Police and the Indiana Fire Marshal.
Twin Lakes High School provided grief counseling to the community Thursday, according to a Facebook post.

"We are all saddened by their untimely deaths and send their condolences to their family and friends," Twin Lakes School Corporation Superintendent Debbie Metzger said in a statement. "Please join me in offering our thoughts and prayers to the Thompson family in their time of sorrow. Fly high Steph and Mya!"
Metzger encouraged students, parents and any other members of the community to utilize the district's counseling services.
A vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Twin Lakes High School, 300 S. Third St. in Monticello, in the teacher parking lot, next to the tennis courts, according to the high school's Honor Society.
ISP officials from across the state offered their condolences Friday for the Thompson family.
"Prayers to all that loved them. Stephanie was an awesome lady who lived for her daughters. My heart is broken," said Sgt. Tony Slocum with ISP's Peru District.
Sgt. Michael Wood with ISP's Lafayette district said, " Our hearts are broken for the Thompson family."
