As Indianapolis wraps up its most violent year yet with a record number of homicides, some local organizations working to combat crime will get a little extra support.
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has awarded $2.2 million in violent crime reduction grants.
One of the recipients is the Mackida Loveal and Trip Outreach Center.
They work with at-risk youth who have been suspended or expelled from school, providing educational assistance and mentoring.
The organization received $80,000 through this grant program.
They plan to use it to expand their services and work with young adults even after they graduate high school and get into their 20s.
“We will help them with job skills, help them find employment, and help them find housing. Anything that will cause a barrier for them to be successful in our society,” said LaShauna Triplett with Mackida Loveal and Trip Outreach Center.
