SPEEDWAY — Some Indianapolis Motor Speedway fans want an old marquee displayed somewhere else besides hidden behind weeds.

People say they want to make sure the iconic piece of history isn't buried as a new era and ownership of IMS moves in.

The sign had the iconic symbol of the wing and wheel, and when you saw it, you knew you were at the Speedway.

"I think that sign is iconic for Indianapolis," Addison Henderson said. "It was there for years and years they took it down and redid the front gates and everything around there."

Henderson believes the a sign with history shouldn't be hidden and should be put on display in the museum at the track or somewhere to acknowledge the history.

"They kind of pushed it into a storage lot and let weeds grow up around it and I just want to see it restored and preserved and put on display for the public to see it again," Henderson said.

IMS issued the following statement to RTV6 regarding the sign:
"The wing and wheel marquee is currently in a secured storage facility. It is an important historical artifact that will be preserved."
