INDIANAPOLIS — An effort is underway in Beech Grove to make sure all seniors have transportation to their COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
The Beech Grove Senior Citizen Center is offering free rides for those who need them.
Leaders there say they’ve already gotten calls from seniors who are unable to leave their home, and family members worried about being able to take their loved one to their COVID-19 vaccination appointments.
The senior center already helps provide rides for medial and grocery needs, so they said it made sense to expand and help with these appointments as well. Leaders there hope this encourages all eligible seniors to make that vaccine appointment.
“Knowing transportation is available, that is one last thing they need to worry about. They just worry about getting that appointment made and we will take care of the rest,” said Stephanie Bramlett, Director of the Beech Grove Senior Center.
The rides are free for seniors who live in Beech Grove and the surrounding area. You can request a ride by calling the Beech Grove Senior Center at 317-788-4987.
Several local health departments say they are working on transportation plans to help seniors in their area. Once those are finalized, we will share that information with you.
