Working Together is a new WRTV initiative that focuses on telling impactful stories highlighting the wide range of cultures, areas and people that make central Indiana the place that it is. Through our Working Together initiative, we will share the stories of our communities and carry their voices forward. We’re Working for You by Working Together.
Hoosiers are finding creative ways to lend a hand and support those on the front lines treating COVID-19 patients.
For Brandon Jordan and his wife showing Hoosier hospitality is a no-brainer.
"We want to help as much as we can but I was furloughed last week so monetarily it's hard for us to do anything," Jordan said.
Even though the couple didn't have extra money to help COVID-19 efforts, they found another way.
"She happened to see this on Facebook about the RVs and donating to a doctor in need," Jordan said.
This couple is just one of thousands choosing to let a doctor use their RV space to isolate when not at the hospital since many of those on the front lines treating patients with coronavirus have loved ones they want to protect too.
"We have an RV in storage right now no one is using it so we figured we would offer that up," Jordan said.
In this case, the RV is fairly new and the Jordans said they are okay getting their RV cleaned once all of this is over.
Here's how it works. A Facebook group matches RVs with healthcare workers. It's an easy process but not instantaneous. The RV must be suitable and paperwork must be completed to qualify before matching takes place.
"It is on the list. We have give all the information and we are waiting to get a call if someone does have a match that needs one in our area and we're the closest they'll give us a call," Jordan said.
RVs 4 MDs to Fight the Corona Virus now has more than 8,000 members and is growing by the moment.
Organizers said they need more RVs in Indianapolis. They are out right now and they have more doctors in the area who are in need of a place to isolate.
