MARTINSVILLE — A Martinsville company is answering a call to help local hospitals.

Workers at Shields Windshields normally make glass for construction vehicles, but now they are making medical supplies.

The company's president, Brad Shields, said they were approached and asked to make intubation boxes for hospitals. The boxes are a barrier that helps protect health care workers while they are intubating a patient.

"Starting to get a lot of responses, so we are getting ramped up," Shields said. "We are hoping we can get some out there to help some people."

Shields said his company is looking to fill several positions and they are already busy due to the construction season. Making the intubation boxes is expected to increase their work load.
