INDIANAPOLIS — Located just south of downtown at 1718 S East St. in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood, you will find a cozy little restaurant that bears the same name as its house number.
The 1718 Bates-Hendricks House Bar has only been open a few months but has already become popular.
The 1900's-old house has now been converted into both a bar and restaurant. It is not a big place, so you could easily pass right by it since it blends into the neighborhood so well. However, once inside, you will get that cozy home feel whether it is to watch a game, have a drink and bite to eat, or just chat with a friend.
Now, of course, you won't be able to do that currently, but the 1718 House Bar is still open for business with curbside pick-up. The menu is abbreviated, but they are still open Tuesday through Saturday from 2:30 o.m. to 8 p.m. for all your carry-out needs.
On the menu, you can find many different hand-crafted sandwiches from an Italian melt to a tuna salad melt to club melt amongst other rotating sandwiches. Don't forget to pair the sandwich with one of the tastiest soups you will ever have. While there are some staples, the soups often rotate as well. Follow them on Instagram at 1718bhhb or Facebook and you will see exactly what I mean. We are not talking about just chicken noodle or basic tomato here. Running through the Instagram feed, I quickly came across Chicken Enchilada, Cheesy Ham & Potato and Bacon Corn Chowder, to name a few.
If you are thirsty, they have beer and hard liquor to go as well. You can order all online or call and place an order. The website is 1718bhhb.com.
Since the weather is going to be chilly this week, soup and a warm sandwich sound pretty good. Once life gets back to normal, this will also be a great spot to walk or bike with the family as it is kid-friendly.
