In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.
INDIANAPOLIS — There are dozens of restaurants around the area that are still open for takeout and delivery, and many of them are also giving back.
It's a side order of "thank you" to go along with some great food.
Indy's "Between the Bun" is a burger place, and one of the very best in all of central Indiana.
Their location at State Road 37 and Southport Road is usually a gathering place as well.
The crowds aren't there, but Scott Sims and his staff continue to serve.
"It's been stressful having to adapt so quickly," Sims, owner of Between the Buns, said. "If it was something we'd seen coming it would have been easier. Forces you to do something different."
Between the Bun is doing takeout and delivery. They're also making available a list of items you can cook at home.
"If you buy a combo meal, we include a cookie kit you can make at home. Friends at "Sweet Escapes" made cookie kit, give one away with certain things you buy," Sims said.
Between the Bun is running weekly specials, with combo meals of all sorts. And this week (April 6 through April 10), you can order extra box lunches that will be given to local medical personnel.
"You know we're trying to think outside the box," Sims said. "Those people on the front lines are sacrificing a lot and they're most susceptible."
