In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — It's pretty easy to agree there's never really a bad time for donuts. Some of the best in our area come from Jack's.

"I've been around donuts my whole life. Donuts were at my house every Saturday morning growing up," Lee Marcum, CEO of Jack's Donuts, said. "Now I have three sons and we have Donut Friday every Friday. There's a lot of families like that. It's what the heart and soul of this business is."

Many of central Indiana's Jack's Donuts locations have stayed open for takeout. Dozens are going out the door every day.

"Right now is the time to not work harder, but smarter, and Jack's has always been a community-based company," Marcum said. "Every store we open, we want them to be part of that community."

But, right now amid the COVID-19 pandemic there's a little something more — to give your kids a chance to do some donut art of their own.

Jack's has come up with this new take-home donut kit pre-packed and ready to go. It includes one dozen of their family recipe yeast donuts, four big cups of frosting, two chocolate and two white and there are sprinkles of course.

Then the fun begins. Time to get the frosting where it needs to be, a few sprinkles or a few more.

"What's happening is the stores that are staying open now, the community is really rallying around them so it's working out well for us," Marcum said.
