INDIANAPOLIS — Some people are filing for unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic because some businesses have been forced to close.

David Skomp works at the Indiana Roof Ballroom and in retail, both industries impacted by the pandemic.

WRTV is following six people in the hospitality industry, which is among the hardest hit.

"It came so suddenly, but at the same time we have to adjust, be careful, we have to take precautions," Skomp said.

He hasn't had to file for unemployment benefits yet but is focusing on his mental health.

At the beginning of May, he completed a virtual 5k race and has gone hiking with friends in state parks. Using things like Zoom, he is connected with his friends each week.

"Tell others, they are going to be okay, we have to maintain a positive attitude, look at the positive things, check in on each other," Stomp said.

In June, Skomp was able to go back to work full-time at his retail job.
