This the third of three stories from WRTV on a free financial service to help families get back on a solid financial standing.
INDIANAPOLIS — Managing money these days might be tougher than ever with so many Hoosier families dealing with layoffs, navigating unemployment insurance or dealing with sudden medical bills.
Ed Wildermuth, a member of the Financial Planning Association, talked with WRTV about a free program for families to manage their money.
Who is this program geared toward?
Wildermuth: The old adage of 'You don't know what you don't know' is very true here. This is to reach out and to assist those who've been affected, or maybe those front line workers who are focused on their job or focused on getting their health better.
How can families help themselves during this tough economic time?
Wildermuth: I've also found just helping people peel back the layers on their budget and looking at what are the things they really need to focus on versus things, that at this time, may be more of a luxury.
Wildermuth said this is a free service and its offered in states across the country no strings attached. Just go to the FPA's website and click on 'COVID-19 pro bono planning' and search Indiana.
What's the catch?
Wildermuth: The most important thing for people to understand too — this is truly pro bono. There is no catch. This is just to help people out. These are certified financial planners, so those who have gone through an extra layer of certification and years of experience so you know the advice that you are getting is from someone who is a trusted industry veteran. And, yeah, there's no strings attached.
