This the second of three stories from WRTV on a free financial service to help families get back on a solid financial standing.
INDIANAPOLIS — A certified financial planner who is part of a nationwide program offering free financial planning assistance to those hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic is answering questions as part of an effort to help households get back on a solid financial standing.
Ed Wildermuth spoke with RTV6 to let Hoosiers know about the free service.
So, how does it work for Hoosier families?
Wildermuth: Our job here is to help them with some of their basic financial needs and knowing that there are resources out here for free. So this is pro bono work that other certified financial planners are doing throughout the country.
What are some common questions Hoosier families tend to bring up during these pro bono sessions?
Wildermuth: Questions of filing for unemployment, or working on a budget. Understanding their medical insurance. More of the kind of basic things to make sure they get through this pandemic, which we still don't know how long it's going to take but it's more of those urgent, critical items.
The Rebound Indiana is connecting people to resources and assistance. What is something families can do right now to help themselves?
Wildermuth: It's sometimes finding the assistance that's outside, but also seeing if this is an opportunity to maybe tighten up their own finances.
Wildermuth said this is a free service and its offered in states across the country no strings attached. Just go to the FPA's website and click on 'COVID-19 pro bono planning' and search Indiana.
