INDIANAPOLIS — It was opening day Wednesday for an Indianapolis event that hasn't been canceled or postponed because of COVID-19 restrictions.
The downtown Original Farmers' Market on Market Street between the City-County Building and the City Market is considered an essential business, and so, was able to open on schedule.
Stevi Stoesz, Executive Director of the City Market, was pleased with the turnout on a cool but sunny day. She said 22 vendors were selling on opening day and many of them did well.
40 to 45 is a typical number of vendors as the weather warms up. Stoesz described the people who showed up to buy Wednesday as "dedicated" market customers.
Social distancing was in place. Markers were put down on the street to encourage market-goers to keep at least six feet apart.
The Original Farmers' Market is held each Wednesday between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Market Street between the City-County Building and the City Market.
