INDIANAPOLIS — Butler cooled off the hottest team in the Big East Tuesday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs snapped a six-game St. John's winning streak with a 76-73 overtime victory.

Butler trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but took the lead with seven minutes to go in regulation. Then with two second left, Aaron Thompson's layup sent the game into overtime.

Thompson would have a major role again. The Red Storm went up by three points with 2:30 left in overtime, but the Bulldogs scored the final four points of the game to win it. Another Thompson layup put Butler ahead, then Myles Tate hit a pair of free throws to make it 76-73.

Thompson finished with 17 points. Bryce Nze was the leading scorer for Butler with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs are now 7-10 overall and 6-8 in the Big East.

St. John's is 13-8 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
