Butler wins first Big East Conference game, 70-64 over Providence

INDIANAPOLIS — Butler played a dominating second half for a 70-64 win over Providence Wednesday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

It was the first Big East Conference victory of the year for the Bulldogs who are now off until next Wednesday when they travel to Providence.

Butler outscored the Friars 39-34 over the final 20 minutes and went up by 12 late in the game. Five Bulldogs scored in double figures, with Jakobe Coles leading the way with 14 points. Myles Tate grabbed eight rebounds.

After losing three straight games, Butler is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Big East play. Providence, which had won three straight, falls to 5-3 and 1-1 in the conference.
