ANDERSON, Ind. — A Carmel couple has adopted a long-time shelter dog from Anderson after an RTV6 story about the neglected pup.
Summer Church saw Facebook posts with the RTV6 story about Shiloh, a neglected dog who had been living at the Madison County Humane Society for a year.
“After reading his story, I really felt like I wanted to help him,” said Church in an email to RTV6. “My boyfriend and I had been discussing getting a dog and so I reached out to the shelter to discuss my living situation and if it might be a good for him.”
Church said Shiloh is slowly adjusting to the apartment where he is living.
“He still has some socialization issues but seems to be slowly warming up to us but it is going to take some time,” said Church. “We have continued to keep the shelter updated on how he is doing.”
The Madison County Humane Society issued a plea in December for someone to adopt Shiloh before Christmas.
The American English Coonhound was surrendered to the shelter three days before Christmas 2017, when he was just 10 months old.
The shelter manager says the previous owners neglected Shiloh when they had a child.
"He was left tied up outside his whole puppy life," Nikki Sanchez-Moore, shelter manager at the Madison County Humane Society, said.
