INDIANAPOLIS -- Retired race car driver John Andretti's cancer has returned.
Andretti announced the news in a tweet, saying the cancer returned and spread to other areas. He had been fighting stage 4 colon cancer.
Following my 6 month scans last week, we received the news that the cancer has returned & spread to other areas. We are in the process of evaluating our options of treatment. Although this is a difficult time for us, your continued prayers & support are very important to us.

In November of last year, Andretti had encouraging updates, saying his scans were clear and that he was optimistic.
Andretti is the son of former racer Aldo Andretti and nephew of racing legend Mario Andretti. He was diagnosed in 2017 and underwent surgery to remove a portion of his colon. He started a campaign called #CheckItForAndretti.
