INDIANAPOLIS -- IndyCar drivers took a break from practice on Wednesday and fanned out into the community to visit schools and share their love of racing with children.

A total of 33 IndyCar drivers and seven IndyLights drivers participated in visits at Indianapolis Public Schools across the city. This is the third year the drivers have taken part in the Indy500 event.

Helio Castroneves, Will Power and Santiago Urrutia showed up at Washington Irving Elementary School where they showed off their driving skills by taking a bicycle lap around a course inside the school’s gym.

"Telling them, no matter what you do, you have to take care of yourself.  So that's actually fun, and when you look at the other drivers, we are all competing,” said Castroneves.  Like who can do more pushups.  Or stuff like that.  It is becoming a very relaxing day.”

Students also got the chance to ask the drivers some tough questions and provided them with a proper send-off before the big race this weekend.

“Special, coming up to a very stressful weekend, everyone is so intense.  So this is actually a nice to take it easy, take your mind away from anything about racing,” said Castroneves.
