INDIANAPOLIS -- In a gripping Bump Day defeat, IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe was one of two drivers bumped from the Indianapolis 500 field and he's taking solace in the fact that this isn't the worst day he's ever had.

Hinchcliffe nearly lost his life when he crashed in Indy in 2015. He missed the big race that year but made a miraculous comeback.

Speculation has been spinning about whether Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, who Hinchcliffe drivers for, will move his sponsorship to another car.

That's a question that will be answered sometime before the big race on Sunday, but Hinchcliffe says for now he's going to accept his fate and see what comes.

"For my own self-preservation, I have to believe that it's over," Hinchcliffe said after the race. "If something changes it will be Christmas in May."
