Will Power won the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon, but another major story throughout the race was the number of crashes during the race.

In all, there were seven different crashes involving eight different cars, after nearly 1/4 of the race had been run. Several fan favorites were also taken out of the race, including Danica Patrick and Tony Kanaan.

It started when reigning Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato and the No. 33 of James Davison came into contact in Turn 3 on lap 48. Both men were checked and released from the infield hospital.

Then, after just four green flag laps, Ed Jones lost control in turn 2 on lap 58 and he was wrecked out of the race.

It was just another six laps before the yellow flag came out once again, this time on lap 68 when Danica Patrick lost control, hitting the wall in turn 2.

The green flag flew once again on lap 72 and they raced until lap 139 when the No. 18 of Sebastien Bourdais made contact in turn 4.

Fan favorite Helio Castroneves, running his second IndyCar race of the season, crashed on lap 146 when he made contact in turn 4 and slid into pit lane.

Sage Karam was next to crash in turn 4, this time on lap 154, two laps after Castroneves crashed out.

Finally, it was Tony Kanaan who crashed with just 11 laps remaining, this time in turn 2. Kanaan was also checked and released from the hospital.
