INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis becomes the center of the pro football world Thursday. It's the annual NFL Scouting Combine.
The league's future stars will all be trying to impress coaches and executives, as more than 1,000 media outlets are here to capture the action of only 300 players.
That's just how big the combine has become in the now 34 years here in Indianapolis. The players get started with workouts on Thursday, with the bench press among the areas open to the public.
Then, they'll do their on-field work at Lucas Oil Stadium, which includes: 40-yard dash, vertical jump, receiving and passing drills.
On Wednesday, the talking began. Colts General Manager, Chris Ballard, and Coach Frank Reich are looking ahead to the draft that comes up in nine weeks.
"We have a very strict criteria about who we want to bring in," Ballard said. "We want players that want to get better, be part of the team, willing to sacrifice... being a good teammate."
The Colts have nine picks to consider as they get ready for the 2019 season.
"Certainly like where we are, like the results from year one," Reich said. "Chris and his staff did a great job, gives us much more clarity about the process to build on that."
RTV6 will start reporting on the 300 or so players on Thursday. The first days' showcase will be quarterbacks. They will talk to the media on Friday and be on the field on Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
