THE PURDUE UNIVERSITY AND UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN GAME SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY WAS CANCELED ON TUESDAY, according to Barry Alvarez — MADISON, WI — The Purdue University and University of Wisconsin game scheduled for Saturday was canceled on Tuesday, according to Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin's director of athletics.

The game was canceled because a total of 27 COVID-19 cases are active in UW's football program. As of Saturday, Oct. 24, 15 UW football players have contracted the coronavirus and 12 staff members.

"I share in the disappointment of our student-athletes and staff," Alvarez said. "We have seen a level of improvement in our testing numbers, but not enough to give us confidence to resume normal activities and play our game on Saturday. We will continue to test regularly, take the proper health-related precautions, and look forward to getting our team back on the field as soon as possible."

Saturday's game will not be rescheduled.

Alvarez says that all team-related activity will be "paused indefinitely, as well. The Badgers first paused team activities on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when it canceled its game against Nebraska scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31.
