Severe weather moved through portions of western and central Indiana Thursday evening, prompting a host of warnings from the National Weather Service and leaving downed trees and power outages in its wake.

Some homeowners and businesses will be cleaning up for a while after heavy rain and strong winds blew through.

The storms that rolled into the region just before 5 p.m. brought with them heavy rain that overwhelmed storm drains up in Broad Ripple.

A tree fell on Cynthia Bates car, at 34th Street and Washington Boulevard on the north side of Indianapolis.

Which was especially scary, because she was inside of the vehicle when the tree fell.

"I looked around and my car started disintegrating around me," Bates said. "And I didn't know what to do, and there was a gentleman outside saying, 'don't move, there's electrical wire across your car.' So he directed me how to pull forward, and get out from under the tree."
